Description
ELGIN AMERICANScarce Sterling Slipper Powder Compact
Patent 1944 (5) D-145100
Compact marked MADE in USA on the inner lid and 44 y 5 over the two hinges
This is a gorgeous compact from Elgin American, issued in the late 1940s and named
Sterling Sleeper that measures almost 4" long and 2.7/8 (almost 3 Inches wide) and has the most wonderful Victorian boot in high relief
on the upper lid
with the boot-closure made-up of six diamante rhinestones.
Sterling finish with the patent No D.145100 on the inner lid and with two hinges marked 44 x / y 5.
The powder well is in excellent condition.
The compact is very pleasant to hold due to its unusual shape, however sometimes it opens on its own. You need to press the closure a number of times to keep it closed.
Otherwise the compact is in awesome vtg condition and will make a great display piece.
The shiny sterling makes it hard to photograph, and some of dark spots are just a reflection of camera
The Elgin American magazine Ad from 1948 advertised this compact as "Defiantly different" - "distinctive in every exquisite detail, with the contour allure, the exclusive edge on fashion so essential to that 'yours alone' look"
