    Description

I purchased this beautiful crewelwork picture from an estate in Norwich, Connecticut rather recently.  The woman who created this crewelwork masterpiece was without question a very accomplished crafter!  I love looking at this piece because each time you look you find a different animal, bird or insect hidden among the tree's branches, flowers and fruits!  The work is large, measuring approximately 18" X 19 1/2" not including the frame.  The work is framed but there is no glass covering the needlework.  It would certainly benefit from a professional mounting as well as a nice early looking frame!  It is a colorful piece with blue being the dominant color.  Below the tree she worked in a body of water with fish and swans.  If you look closely you will find a cray fish or lobster!  On land there is the requisite unicorn as well as a goat, dog, rabbit, camel and a buck. The tree itself is wound with vines and laden with colorful flowers and fruit.  There are birds of all types and sizes accompanied by, butterflies, caterpillars, and a squirrel, even a snail!  At the top of the picture among the clouds are a sun, a moon, and a star.  She covered just about everything nature related and left left out people!  I love this piece!  I do not believe it was created from a kit.  The woman who I believe created this beautiful crewelwork embroidery, probably K.F. Brown, did not sign or date this particular work.  She did sign another piece, a piece from the same estate, which was a beautiful reproduction sampler, that I recently sold.  The colors are nice and bright and this piece is in excellent condition.
