Mid 1940's Plexiglass; Eleanor Hamlin MAVCO compact

Description

“Clear as crystal, light as a wisp…” For collectors of those large Lucite or Plexiglass compacts that pepper on-line auction sites, the name Mavco, will be awfully familiar. The first Mavco-branded compact was an oblong case marketed as a Jewel Cut Vanity and it made its appearance in late 1943. It was made of Lucite – that modern, hard as nails, plastic which was also known by different names, such as Plexiglass, depending on the plastic manufacturer. This oblong case was offered in gold-highlighted white. Later versions typically included rhinestone decorations as well.
This compact is unused.
Square shape. It has the original plastic pouch.
Colors are clear and gold. Lucite or Plexiglass.
Manufactured in mid-1940's. Condition: Unused, mirror is clear and fully silvered, unscratched. The puff shows some deterioration attributed age and material. The hinge, and clasp mechanisms, are perfect.
