At the Xiaomi 15 launch event in China tomorrow, October 29, the company will also be unveiling its second electronic vehicle (EV), the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra –– which follows the launch of Xiaomi SU7 earlier this year. Pre-orders for the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra have already started in China. The car’s prototype was also revealed a few months ago. Now, the car is set to debut in China.
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is expected to target the high-end electric vehicle market with impressive specs and features. Though the official pricing is yet to be disclosed, industry speculation suggests it could be priced around CNY 800,000 (roughly Rs 95 lakh), positioning it as a potential competitor to the Tesla Model S Plaid in China. This would place it above the standard SU7 model, which starts at CNY 215,900 (roughly Rs 25 lakh).
The SU7 Ultra prototype, which was unveiled a few months ago, has been designed with a focus on delivering top-notch performance. It features a triple HyperEngine electric motor setup, developed in-house by Xiaomi, consisting of two V8s motors and a single V6s motor. The motors are strategically placed at the front and rear wheels, offering a combined output of 1,548 horsepower and a peak torque of 635 Nm. Xiaomi claims the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 1.97 seconds, reach 200 kmph in 5.96 seconds, and hit 300 kmph from a standstill in 15.07 seconds. Its top speed is reported to exceed 350 kmph, with a maximum downforce of 2,145 kg to ensure stability at high speeds.
The production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra will closely mirror the prototype in terms of motor configuration, chassis design, battery pack, and other technical components. However, unlike the prototype, it will not feature a carbon fiber body due to concerns over the high costs associated with using the material.
A key component of the SU7 Ultra’s performance is its Qilin II battery pack, developed by CATL. Using advanced CTB (cell-to-body) technology, the 150 kWh battery is directly integrated into the vehicle’s body, contributing to structural integrity and weight balance. The battery can deliver a peak power output of 1,330 kW, even maintaining an 800 kW output when the charge level drops to 20 percent. The vehicle supports a 5.2C charging multiplier, allowing it to fully charge in under 12 minutes.
Despite showcasing the SU7 in India, Xiaomi never released it in the Indian market, and a similar situation may occur with the SU7 Ultra. For the smartphone segment, Xiaomi will unveil the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro alongside the EV launch, but only the standard Xiaomi 15 is expected to reach Indian shores.
